Three of my grandsons have nut allergies with one having to be taken to the hospital on several occasions. There is nothing harder than watching one of your grandsons laying almost comatose as the result of an inadvertent encounter with peanut residue. He did not eat or touch peanuts or any nut product he simply came into contact with someone or something that had. This is not something you can take a pill for. It is not something you can take any preventative medication for. Your best line of defense is avoidance. Your second line of defense is an eppi pen and a very quick trip to the hospital. My grandson has to carry at least two on him at all times. There are only two places in the world he is allowed with out them on his person, his home and mine. |

This is something that few people are aware of. A simple mistake in the kitchen can be life threatening.
Hi Kathy...Love Peanuts Cashews, Almonds and other Nuts, I could not imagine getting sick because I eat nuts or touched one...not fun. I don't remember this being a problem when I was young, I hope it's not something brought on by Man and our chemicals we use daily.
Good Luck to your Grandsons...just something else we need to be guarded against with those effected.:O(
Kathy,
I have seen a few people with this type of allergy and it's so severe and so quick.Unless you have really seen someone react, it's difficult to appreciate.
Brian
Doug - the real issue for me is the people who do get it and choose to ignore it at the risk to the friends of their children
Fred - Barrie and I both love nuts but have all but eliminated them from our diet as the risk of having them in or home is to great. the simple act of putting a peanut in our mouth and then touching something that our grandson touches can send him to the hospital with an Anaphylatic reaction. I beleive that the rising incidents of Anaphylaxis points to mans intervention with nature.
Brian - appreciation comes from education and that is what the Anaphylaxis Canada campaing is about. It also takes a willingness on peoples part to adjust their lifestyle and habits.
